Finding MY Place
From our first day on this earth we’re working and learning about finding our place where we feel comfortable, most ourselves. While I feel comfortable in my own skin, I’m facing a new and old kind of advisory which I thought I had left behind.
While I’m a shrewd competitor, I’m also one who is a very social and positive person. No, I’m far from Pollyanna, but I do always look for the best in others, and it is one of the things that makes me special and different. It’s also something that can put me in harms way and is risky and naive. Like most people, I do my best to learn from my mistakes. Over the past few months I have had some life lessons because of these qualities and have been taken advantage of by others. I’m not one of speak ill of others but if you read my blog, you know some of the situations I may or may not be referring to.
So like any person who is a life-long learner, I set out for some sage advice about finding MY place. And after talking with someone who’s opinion I value dearly and look up to, the advice they had for me was this. . .
- Grow thicker skin and keep ignoring it. Remind yourself that those people don’t matter.
- Improve your skills in dealing with people. Get better at stepping in without stepping on people’s toes. This is a life-long process.
- Downscale your dreams. Let go of your ambitions.
- Move to a place where ambition is more culturally accepted.
MY place, a place where I feel me and where those I hold close understand, support and accept me. It’s a place that is my sanctuary and is free from judgement and judging. While I can’t think or speak for others, the advice I received has me thinking about finding MY place. And MY place (pictured above) happens to be along the beautiful beach of Waikiki in Hawaii.
Where’s YOUR place and what are you doing to do to get there? Do you have what it takes?

I can relate completely with this post because I am still also trying to find my place in the world. And I agree, it truly is a life-long process. Different experiences, whether positive or negative, sometimes make it clear to us what our paths should be in life. Because of my experiences, I have decided that a move is in order and I am actively working to make that happen. I am long overdue for having “my sanctuary.”
Good luck on getting to Hawaii! I wish you the best.
@aisha,
Thanks for commenting and stopping by. I am sure I will always be working to find my place. That’s half the fun!

Nice thoughts, Jessica
I think it is human nature to constantly be seeking a new place. I have a few years on you, and I am still looking for my ideal place. I think that place is an ephemeral dream – constantly shifting in our mind’s eye, and always out there on some elusive horizon.
A few years ago, I wanted nothing more than to be able to live in Florida and be able to take quiet walks on the beaches here. Then I traveled to new places, Europe, South America, the Cariibbean, and India.
Now I have like 10 more places I would love to make my place for a while.
It is really living in every moment that matters.
